Barry Marsden began shooting pictures at the age of 30 after studying Fine Art Painting at Loughborough College of Art. He has since specialised in portraiture and people photography for editorial, design and corporate clients.


In 1989 Barry was voted Kodak Features Photographer of the year.


Barry has been commissioned to shoot images for Time magazine, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, LA Times, Classic FM magazine, England Rugby Magazine, Prima, Readers Digest, Saga Magazine, Vox, Night and Day Magazine, Time Out and Writers Guild of America Magazine amongst many other publications.

His work has appeared in publications world wide, including Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Spin, The Times, The Guardian, Vogue UK, Tatler, Radio Times, NME, Uncut, Scotland on Sunday, Corriere della Sera and magazines in Japan and Germany.


Design companies including SAS Design, Salter Baxter and Wechsler Ross & Portet have commissioned Barry to shoot corporate material for clients such as Sainsburys, GKN, Cambridge University, Blue Circle Cement, Arcapita, Ernst and Young, A & O and Tetrapak.


Barry has recently completed shoots for the new academies across the south of England, producing creative prospectus and promotional photography.


Barry’s work has been included in twelve mixed exhibitions including The Kobal Portrait Awards at the National Portrait Gallery (on three occasions), Icons of Pop at the NPG, British Composers at the NPG, Sporting Heroes at the NPG, British Comedians at the NPG and at the Lowry in Manchester, Facing the Music at the Barber Institute of Arts in Birmingham and “Icons of Pop-The Photographers Cut” at the Proud Gallery in London. Over 80 of his photographic prints are owned by the National Portrait Gallery and are in the permanent collection there.


In 1998 Barry was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to photograph 28 movers and shakers in the food and restaurant industry and the results formed a one-man show at the gallery in 1999.
